Corky Hale
Corky started playing piano at age three and was accepted to the Chicago Conservatory at age seven, a student of both harp and piano. At seventeen she arrived in Hollywood and was immediately signed to appear on the Freddy Martin Television show. She also played on the Liberace show, the Spike Jones show and with the David Rose orchestra on the Red Skelton show as well as numerous other network programs. In the late fifties, while playing piano and singing for the big bands of Ray Anthony, Harry James and Jerry Gray, she was also hired by Mel Torme and Billie Holiday as their piano accompanist. During the three years she lived in Rome she appeared regularly on the Italian Jazz show Tempo di Jazz. In the late fifties she moved to New York where she became the accompanist for such stars as Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. She has played on over one hundred albums featuring such artists as Nina Simone, Judy Collins, James Brown, Peter Allen, Roberta Flack, Peggy Lee and Bjork. In 1970 she married songwriter Mike Stoller and they now make their home in Hollywood, Calif. Corky has served as musical director for such acclaimed songwriters as Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Hal David, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. These writers along with Lionel Richie, Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, David Raksin, David Shire, Jerry Leiber and the late Sammy Fain are all personal friends as well as musical associates.
