Steve Ross:
Plays contemplative and dynamic world music and can create live sound scapes which are suitable for performance venues, weddings, rituals and other special occasions. His primary instrument is the shakuhachi flute, an ancient end-blown Japanese Flute with a very contemplative soothing quality. He also plays dumbek, tibetan bowls and a specially modified 36 string zither.

Some of these instruments are used in a form of sound/bodywork he calls Wave Massage; an integration of Swedish, Vibrational, and reflexology techniques with live and recorded sound. After the body has been opened up physically by these traditional massage methods, the more subtle sound vibrations can be especially therapeutic. The didjeridu often has an opening, loosening effect, while the zither seems to induce a state of peace and relaxation.

There has been quite an expansion in the last few years in the field of brainwave entrainment and Steve has added some of this new cutting edge technology to his sessions. He uses the Nova Pro Sound/Light machine (which creates pulses to match desired brainwave patterns) and a Somatron Vibroacoustic bed which translates sound, live or recorded into tactile sensation.

Steve and Earthtone Music also consists of a line of handmade flutes that he has fashioned out of locally grown Kauaiian bamboo: Shakahachi, Transverse and Native American block flute styles.
